In August of 2008, We celebrated Our
twelth year as
"Old
World Italian Restaurant"
Teresa Hayek was born in Bolivia, (the country
not the city) and
moved to New York in 1979, where she developed her
natural talent
in the nuances of Italian cooking. The seeds of Old
World Italian
was sown when their New Jersey neighbors, John and Anna Hungler, began vacationing on the Grand Strand during the month of August
each
year. The Hayek family would visit them regularly and were
taken
with the area. John Hungler Kept saying, "he had a vision, you can
do it" and so the seeds
germinated and when George Jr.
graduated from Johnson & Wales University
in 1995, the Hayek family relocated to the Grand Strand and opened
"The
Old World
Italian Restaurant".
Many of the regular diners have become dear friends and T. C.
Moehringer and wife Elizabeth are counted among them.
T. C. expressed his love and friendship for the Hayek
family in a poem that he wrote as follows:
"There's a little touch of Italy tucked deep within the South.
It's been a good many years since this all came about.
Once you step inside and see the soft decor,
you will see the owner, ever pleasant, just inside the door.
This charming Italian entrepreneur is as proud as he can be,
of this cozy little restaurant run by him and his family.
There is George, his son and Teresa his wife,
they're not only the chefs, they're the pride of his life.
Each dish is prepared with the greatest of care,
I'd rate it the equal or best anywhere.
As for the ambiance it's soothing, it's calming the
the soft lights and candles make it ever so charming.
So we bless you our friends where we love to eat,
The service is wonderful. They make dining complete,
and give a true meaning to "Bon Appetite".
